- Mouth's mucous membranes.

This condition is often identified by healthcare professionals between one and three weeks post-birth.

Additional indicators of kernicterus include:

- Lethargy.

- Fever.

- Vomiting.

- Uncontrolled muscle movements.

The symptoms of kernicterus can differ depending on its stage.

Stages of Kernicterus and Associated Symptoms:

1. **Early Stage**: Challenges in feeding and sucking, excessive sleepiness, reduced muscle tone, and lack of startle reflex.

2. **Middle Stage**: Increased irritability, high-pitched or loud crying, and muscle stiffness.

3. **Late Stage**: Difficulty in feeding, rigid muscles (with neck and back arching), and seizures.

Late-stage kernicterus is extremely critical and can be life-threatening. Should you observe jaundice alongside other symptoms in your child, it's imperative to seek immediate medical attention from a healthcare provider.
